About the RoleThe Indigenous Platform Coordinator will work closely with Dr. Alexandra King, Renée Masching, and Carrielynn Lund to strengthen Indigenous participation in and leadership of the Canadian Network on Hepatitis C (CanHepC). The Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the activities and implementing the work plan of the CanHepC Indigenous Platform to attain the aims outlined above.
Key Responsibilities- Act as liaison to increase meaningful and authentic Indigenous participation in and leadership of research through the implementation of Indigenous research governance principles and a formal community accountability framework.
- Ensure the implementation, evaluation, and interconnection between Pewaseskwan, the CanHepC Scientific Committee, and an Indigenous HCV Community Guiding Circle.
- Work to enhance equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), and Indigenous-specific training and education opportunities for all members of the CanHepC network.
- Provide research support for Pewaseskwan on CanHepC-related initiatives, particularly the CanHepC National Indigenous Roadmap project.
- Assist with developing, preparing, and finalizing a broad range of written materials, including strategic documents, reports, literature reviews, funding proposals, both independently and in collaboration with the Pewaseskwan team, key stakeholders, and partners.
- Offer guidance to entrench high-quality research as per regulations stipulated by the Tri-Council and other granting agencies, Research Ethics Boards, and other oversight and regulatory bodies, and uplift Indigenous research philosophies and methodologies, including data sovereignty.
- Develop strong, collaborative relationships within the communities in Saskatchewan and Manitoba with Pewaseskwan, as well as nationally with CanHepC and internationally overall, to meet the Platform activities and project goals.
- Participate in relevant committees at the organizational, regional, and national levels.
A Master's degree in a related health or business discipline from a recognized program is required. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Minimum of two years of directly related leadership experience in research administration is required. Demonstration of prior experience engaging with Indigenous peoples/nations is required. Knowledge of Indigenous health context in Canada and specifically the national hepatitis C landscape is required. Knowledge of project management processes, including successful collaborations with community and university stakeholders, is required.
Authorship of academic publications, proposals, and/or reports and supervising staff will be considered an asset. Knowledge of University of Saskatchewan policies and procedures, including the USask Systems, will be considered an asset.
