Electrical Maintenance Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Maintenance Specialist to join our Plant Department team at Barrick. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repairs of all electrical equipment hardware and software in our 8500 TPD mechanized underground gold mine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety Acts, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct regular reviews and recommend improvements to accident prevention practices.
  • Investigate and report all hazards in accordance with relevant procedures and implement remedial actions.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following operating procedures, wearing personal protective equipment, and operating equipment effectively.
  • Attend daily group safety meetings to communicate safety instructions and gather concerns.
  • Work within daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance plans to ensure availability of manpower, equipment, tools, services, and resources.
  • Identify and organize resources required for these plans, including equipment, personnel, and services, to achieve established production targets.
  • Perform physical inspections to determine if work meets company standards regarding quality, production, and safety.
  • Recommend measures or changes to improve production methods, equipment performance, and use of equipment and personnel to increase efficiency of the department and entire mine.
  • Ensure all work completed supports activities of subsequent shifts and communicate these activities to respective supervision.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly shift reports as required.
  • Complete operational checks to monitor quality and productivity and ensure established standards are met.
  • Complete all required housekeeping audits.
  • Ability to work with high voltages in an industrial setting.
  • Maintain a high standard of workmanship at all times, particularly during time constraints associated with plant downtime.
  • The role involves interruption to electrical supplies, so special attention must be placed on the impacts on the broader working environment.
  • Individual will be called upon to assist in UG troubleshooting and new installations at times.
  • Understand technical components of the job and use technical knowledge or skills to safely complete tasks.
  • Schedule own work to ensure the most important work gets done, plan to have materials ready to complete a job, and adjust schedule based on priority situations.
  • Critique own performance as a means of self-improvement and set high standards of work performance for self.
  • Diagnose problems and share solutions to create learning experiences.
  • Provide reports as required for decision-making, period reporting, and budgeting purposes.
  • Anticipate and implement solutions to problems that may occur in operations through troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Implement and adhere to all company policies and directives.
  • Optimize the use of operating consumables to minimize costs.
  • Actively participate in Continuous Improvement activities to improve all areas of the mine and ensure these activities are aligned with the Company's direction.
  • Promote and encourage all employees in establishing the Continuous Improvement culture.
  • Instruct and train co-workers to ensure adherence to company procedures, guidelines, and relevant government legislation.
  • Follow employee training plan to ensure all necessary training is complete.
  • Maintain proper working relations with all other departments, including contractor relationships.
  • Communicate with Supervisor, Superintendent (if required), and other employees to review direction, resolve problems, recommend priorities, and corrective measures to improve operations and conditions of the entire mine.
  • Update the Supervisor for direction and communication.
  • Receive and give accurate, timely feedback to Supervisor, employees, and other groups.
  • Identify and communicate maintenance priorities to other departments.
  • Ensure operating objectives and targets are effectively communicated to crew.

Qualifications:

  • Educational background in Electrical Engineering Technologist or extensive programming experience with industrial electrical certification.
  • Industrial electrical certification (Red Seal) would be an asset.
  • Experience with GE, DC Drives, GE PLC Systems, and Auto CAD.
  • Approximately five years of technical experience.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Experience with Proficy, iFix HMI/SCADA, Delta V, SAP.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Communications Systems.
  • Underground basic common core is an asset.
