About the Role:

PRT Growing Services Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Manager to join our team at our Campbell River location. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of greenhouse and open compound seedling operations, ensuring nursery efficiency and quality standards are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise greenhouse and open compound seedling production, ensuring timely and efficient completion of tasks.
  • Assist the Nursery Manager with planning and achieving production targets, including sowing, thinning, lifting, blackout, cold storage, and shipping.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the facility and equipment, including routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Finalize inventory and manage labor force, ensuring adequate staffing levels and efficient use of resources.
  • Correspond with customers, responding to inquiries and resolving any issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Follow and enforce safe work practices, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement, identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing changes as needed.
  • Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Set targets (i.e., production, timelines) and evaluate achievement, making adjustments as necessary to ensure goals are met.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 or more years of horticulture or crop production experience, with a strong background in leadership and management.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to perform manual work, both indoor and outdoor, in varying weather conditions.
  • Proficient understanding of production processes, quality control principles, and safety regulations.
  • Strong planning, organization, and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Good problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct a root cause analysis and implement effective solutions.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with employees, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Robust computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
