Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this position is between $19.00 and $21.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Job Description

This role involves providing transitional supports for youth from 16 to 21 years old leaving the care of Child and Family Services. As a member of Leading Black Wolf, you will provide one-on-one mentorship to develop life skills alongside facilitating culturally based activities and utilizing community resources.

Responsibilities:
  • Create positive and attainable expectations and goals alongside Mentees
  • Foster individual strengths and talents, customizing provided supports and resources
  • Teach life skills, such as budgeting and housing, accessing child care, and understanding healthy relationships
  • Recruit and retain participants; listen to concerns and troubleshoot requests
  • Model responsible, engaged, and positive behavior
  • Incorporate traditional knowledge in all program levels
  • Facilitate and organize various youth activities
  • Cultivate creative, holistic, and sincere mentorship and support
  • Inform the Coordinator of concerns, questions, and challenges
  • Follow Organizational safety protocols and procedures, including participant transportation as required
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Demonstrated understanding of the mentorship role working alongside vulnerable youth
  • An engaged mentor ensuring participants access resources barrier-free
  • Able to take detailed case notes and produce report documentation if required
  • Takes initiative on program planning, preparation, and facilitation
  • Harm reduction and trauma-informed lens advocate
  • Builder of strong relationships with participants and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrator and incorporator of cultural knowledge and competence
  • Knowledgeable on youth and community resources, assisting in system navigation

You should possess relevant post-secondary education or a combination of education and experience, along with one to two years of experience working with vulnerable youth. A valid Manitoba Driver's License, clear driver's abstract, and reliable transportation are also essential requirements.
