Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Associate Director to lead our Capital Finance and Operations team at BCIT. As a key member of our Financial Services department, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to our capital asset portfolio, including the Campus Planning and Facilities (CPF) capital projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Capital Asset Management: Develop and implement strategies, practices, policies, and processes for the management of our capital assets, capital projects, and capital plans.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Direct the development and management of budgets, forecasts, analytics, and reporting on all capital assets, capital projects, and capital plans.
  • Leadership and Team Management: Manage directly and indirectly reporting staff, overseeing and participating in selection, coaching, mentoring, development, performance management, and all other people-management practices.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Participate as a member of the Financial Controller's leadership team, providing input to development of CPF capital project strategies, advising and making recommendations on key financial decisions, and sharing responsibility for related financial achievements and success.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with Institute policies and practices as well as regulatory requirements, and implement and ensure the necessary controls to identify and mitigate financial risks are in place and working.
Requirements
  • Education: Canadian professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalency
  • Experience: Minimum 8 years' experience at progressive levels of responsibility, including a leadership role in finance and administration, preferably in an education/public sector facilities context
  • Skills: Advanced knowledge of financial and operational management, construction project procurement, and the Capital Asset Management Framework; strategic planning skills, with ability to facilitate development of operational and capital plans and related budgets; analytical skills with ability to direct research, analysis, and development of complex reports; people leadership skills with ability to build and manage teams across diverse functions in a unionized, public sector environment.
