Position Overview

BCIT's Financial Services division is looking for five (5) full-time Associate Directors of Finance. These roles serve as strategic financial advisors to the School/Department's financial planning efforts, collaborating closely with leadership to ensure alignment with the Institute's Strategic and Educational objectives. As a member of the leadership team, you will provide insights and recommendations on critical financial decisions. Your responsibilities will include the development, execution, and enhancement of budgeting, forecasting, and financial operations in accordance with BCIT policies and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage as a member of the leadership team, contributing to strategic development.
  • Serve as a primary financial advisor to department leaders, identifying opportunities and challenges while facilitating informed decision-making.
  • Formulate and implement financial strategies and business cases, ensuring effective risk management and timely communication of critical issues.
  • Oversee budget planning and financial performance monitoring, assisting budget owners in making informed financial choices.
  • Deliver precise financial forecasts and plans, collaborating with stakeholders to address identified risks.
  • Manage month-end and year-end accounting activities, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Prepare and review financial performance reports, providing insightful commentary on variances.
  • Integrate enrolment planning with the School's budget, working alongside relevant managers to address challenges and support financial objectives.
  • Assist in developing robust business cases and capital investment plans for funding submissions.
  • Design and produce new financial information for internal use and external reporting.
  • Oversee daily financial transactions, procurement activities, and contract administration.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and regulations.
  • Lead and mentor staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or commerce with a focus on finance or accounting.
  • At least 8 years of progressive experience in financial planning and management within a large organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial planning concepts, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills and business acumen.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with ERPs and business intelligence tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in a unionized environment.
