Job Summary


We are seeking a highly skilled Data Security Analyst to join our team at the University of Waterloo. This is a unique opportunity to work with a dynamic group of professionals who are passionate about advancing research security in academia.



About the Role


The Data Security Analyst will be primarily responsible for gathering and analyzing open-source information to support granting application processes, international institutional agreements, and research partnerships. You will work closely with our research security team to provide empirical information, conduct risk assessments, and develop standard operating procedures.



Main Responsibilities


As a Data Security Analyst, you will:



  • Gather and analyze open-source information to support granting applications, international institutional agreements, and research partnerships.
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide empirical information to inform policy development and strategic planning.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for research security.
  • Work with advanced analytics software to produce empirical material and RS assessments.
  • Monitor projects and partners to identify new and evolving risks to the university.


Requirements


To be successful in this role, you will need:



  • A Bachelor's degree in business, administration, or international relations (or a related field).
  • Extensive project management skills using identified project management best practices.
  • Minimum two to three years of professional work experience related to analytical assessment in academic research or industry settings.
  • Strong knowledge of research security, including Canadian Safeguarding Research standards and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply high-level critical thinking consistently and effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for procedural documentation.
  • Highly proficient use of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and various OSINT software.
