Job Summary

The Health and Safety Coordinator will play a key role in supporting the regional Health and Safety Manager and regional business team in the implementation of health and safety management systems and processes. This includes providing health and safety guidance to operations to ensure compliance with Lafarge Group Standards, country-level policies, and jurisdictional regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct H&S coaching to operational site-level leadership, safety committee representatives, and embedded safety personnel.
  • Assist with facilitation and coordination of training, including annual startups, supervisor seminars, and visual personal commitment.
  • Perform risk assessments and develop safe work procedures for regional and country purposes.
  • Provide guidance and support to operations to meet OHS, country, and Group expectations.
  • Assist with facilitation of serious investigations, including recordable injuries, near misses, and critical incidents.
  • Accompany and comply with OHS inspections and potential orders.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct COR audits to ensure annual rebate for the region.
  • Support regional operations in preparation for Group HSMS audits and develop action plans for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in North America HSMS audits, identifying compliance gaps against Group health and safety standards.
  • Support HS Manager and regional operations in development and implementation of H&S priorities, guidance documents, key lessons learned, best practices, policies, etc.
  • Support and guide regional operations in claim management and injury prevention.
  • Support HS Manager in implementation of both country and regional HSE-IP objectives.
  • Assist with utilization of internal reporting tools to meet country reporting requirements.
  • Support regional operations in implementation and maintenance of programs such as Sitedocs, Icare, Avetta, etc.
  • Develop and share regional communications to all stakeholders, including key lessons, best practices, alerts, KPIs, etc.

Relationships with Other Jobs

  • Collaborate with the WCAN HS Team and Head of Health & Safety in determining country priorities and action plans.
  • Develop and maintain positive and constructive relationships with local regulatory agencies.
  • Engage with front-line leadership and workers through being present in the field (minimum of 8 hours per week).
  • Collaborate with other functional regional functional supports and business partners, such as Human Resource, Procurement, and Environment.

Dimensions

The Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the regional product line, including RMX plants, aggregates, asphalt, construction (20 crews), and pipe/prefabricated products.

Qualifications

  • Education: Post-secondary certification (degree, diploma, certificate) in Occupational Health & Safety is preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years working experience as a health and safety professional, with a preference for the construction industry.
  • Certification: CRSP preferred, CSO or NCSO is preferred.
  • COR auditor certification is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and preferred computer skills: Google Platform, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of relevant provincial regulations.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to travel within North America.
