**Job Summary**

The Government of Northwest Territories is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Manager, Conservation Planning. This position plays a critical role in regional land use planning initiatives and ensuring that GNWT obligations related to conservation planning are fulfilled in a strategic and transparent manner.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Develop and implement conservation planning strategies that align with regional objectives and support the strategic initiatives of the GNWT.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including Indigenous governments, institutions, and communities, to ensure that conservation planning initiatives are informed by local knowledge and perspectives.
  • Provide expert advice on conservation planning and management principles and approaches, including conservation areas and cumulative effects management.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and best practices in conservation planning and management, and apply this knowledge to inform decision-making.
  • Supervise and mentor staff to ensure that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute to the success of the conservation planning team.

**Requirements**

  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as geography, natural resources, or environmental management.
  • At least 5 years of experience in conservation planning, legislative and policy analysis, and project management.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing effective conservation planning strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
