The City of Iqaluit is seeking a Recreation Program Manager to join their team. Reporting to the Recreation Services Manager, this role specializes in developing, coordinating, promoting and implementing a wide variety of recreational programs, activities, and services.


As a key member of the Recreation Department, the Recreation Program Manager will be responsible for coordinating camp, youth centre programs, sports and physical literacy programs, teen programs, elders programs, and other recreation and leisure programs for families, children, adolescents, adults, and elders.


This individual will act as a liaison with community organizations and provide support to community sport and recreation groups, while also coordinating various Recreation Department special events. Additionally, they will assist in training staff and supervise up to 20 employees at any given time.


The ideal candidate will have a degree or diploma from an accredited University or College in Recreation and Leisure Studies or a similar program, along with a minimum of three years experience leading recreational programs, including children's camps, Seniors/Elders programs, sport programs, cultural activities.


They must also possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of maintaining filing systems and financial record keeping as applied to recreation programs, and project management experience or certification. Experience working front line in children's camp and/or youth centre settings, as well as working in a northern environment and understanding of the Inuit culture, are highly desirable.


The salary range for this position is estimated to be between $60,000 to $80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. This figure takes into account the cost of living in Iqaluit, Nunavut, and the industry standards for similar positions.


To be successful in this role, the candidate must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and possess excellent administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills. A class five driver's license is required, as well as NCCP coaching certification and 'High Five' certification.
