Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at Det'on Cho Management LP.

About the Role

The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive OHS program across all Det'on Cho-owned enterprises. This includes providing technical support, ensuring compliance with regulations, overseeing training, and promoting a safety culture.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute effective procedures to enhance the OHS program, review it annually, and identify policies and procedures needing revision or development.
  • Solicit input for changes to policies and procedures from all levels of the organization.
  • Communicate and implement changes in collaboration with Senior Management.
  • Monitor compliance with policies and procedures and provide feedback to Senior management.
  • Evaluate health and safety practices and procedures for risk assessment and adherence to legal guidelines.
  • Ensure that locations complete monthly inspections, participate in annual site-specific inspections, and maintain consistent data collection.
  • Provide regular analysis and recommendations for inspection findings to managers and supervisors.
  • Identify trends in incidents and communicate with senior OHS management.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and ensure timely reporting and compliance.
  • Represent the organization on OHS-related matters and serve as a point of contact with WSCC.
Requirements
  • A degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in safety management, with increasing complexity.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of an OHS program.
  • Relevant professional certifications or memberships are advantageous.
  • Thorough comprehension of Federal, Provincial, and local regulations regarding Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to freely access all points of a work site in various climates and environments.
  • Able to successfully communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
