Occupational Health and Safety Manager

The Occupational Health and Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the OHS Program across all Det'on Cho-owned enterprises. This includes providing technical support, ensuring compliance with regulations, overseeing training, and promoting a safety culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute effective procedures to enhance the program, review the OHS Program annually, and identify policies and procedures needing revision or development.
  • Solicit input for changes to policies and procedures at all levels of the organization.
  • Communicate and implement changes in collaboration with Senior Management.
  • Monitor compliance with policies and procedures and provide feedback to Senior management.
  • Evaluate health and safety practices and procedures for risk assessment and following legal guidelines.
  • Ensure that locations complete monthly inspections, participate in annual inspections, and provide monthly analysis for inspections.
  • Identify trends in incidents and communicate with senior OHS Manager.
  • Manage the Return-to-Work Program, ensuring employees who have taken leave due to illness or injury return and integrate successfully.
  • Support managers and employees regarding WSCC claims, captured in the incident management database.
  • Develop the organization's annual training needs to ensure compliance with Legislation and Company standards.
  • Represent the organization and act as the point person for communication with regulatory and provincial agencies.

Requirements:

  • Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in safety management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of an OHS program on projects of increasing complexity.
  • Relevant professional certifications or memberships are advantageous.
  • Thorough comprehension of Federal, Provincial, and local regulations about Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
