About the Role


We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at Big Rock Brewery in Calgary, Alberta. This is a full-time opportunity with a competitive salary of $90,000 - $110,000 per year.



Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing our health and safety function across the organization. This includes developing, implementing, and maintaining effective health and safety programs and procedures, providing training and coaching to employees, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.



Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, and coach employees through effective training and communication
  • Evaluate and improve existing health and safety processes and procedures
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
  • Collaborate with management and employees to develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, injuries, and illnesses
  • Stay up-to-date with changing regulatory requirements and industry standards
  • Develop and deliver reports on health and safety performance metrics
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement changes as needed
  • Foster a culture of health and safety awareness among employees
  • Participate in emergency response planning and preparedness
  • Perform other related duties as required


Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a health and safety function, preferably in a manufacturing environment. A post-secondary education in a relevant field, such as occupational health and safety, and certification as a Certified Risk Management (CRSP) or equivalent is also required.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong business acumen and understanding of cost and opportunity management
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of the Health and Safety Act, provincial regulations, and WSIB policy
  • Direct working experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Previous experience with inventory control, ERP, and WMS systems preferred
  • Relationship management experience with regulatory agencies preferred
  • Understanding of HACCP rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate and work well with various departments and locations
  • Proficiency in English language
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good financial and business awareness
  • Strong written and verbal skills to communicate with all levels of the organization and its executive team
  • Strong quantitative and critical thinking skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Punctual with a strong work ethic
