Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled HRSG/OTSG Control Specialist to join our team at Propak. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting customers with the programming of the DCS system related to HRSG/OTSG, coordinating and/or developing PLC programs for independent control of Propak/IST's HRSG/OTSG, and assisting with developing/maintaining automation and control standards and document templates for HRSG/OTSG control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist customers with the programming of the DCS system that is related to HRSG/OTSG.
  • Coordinates and/or develops PLC programs for independent control of Propak/IST's HRSG/OTSG.
  • Assist with developing/maintaining automation and control standards and document templates for HRSG/OTSG control.
  • HRSG/OTSG Commissioning in North America and internationally.
  • HRSG/OTSG on-site performance testing.
  • Generates, Reviews/Modifies electrical schematics, P&IDs, Logic Diagrams, Cause Effects & Alarm and Trip documents.
  • Ensures each project meets the contract scope of supply and design specifications.
  • Conducts Factory Approval Tests FAT/SAT/HAT/CAT on control systems for HRSG/OTSG and oil and gas equipment (Loop/HMI/Logic checks).
  • Independently analyzes complex problems by communicating with other departments within Propak/IST, leaders, employees and customers.
  • Works with engineers to create/review/modify control philosophies/narratives for power, steam, oil and gas equipment.
  • Assists with system architecture design.
  • Provides ongoing technical support to clients.
  • Travels, domestically and internationally, to assist in the commissioning and start-up of power, steam, oil and gas equipment (up to 30% travel requirement, and up to 8 weeks continuously).

Requirements

  • A graduate of a recognized diploma in Electrical/Instrumentation/Mechanical Engineering/Process/Chemical Technology or Engineering program.
  • OACETT/CET, C.Tech.
  • APPEGA/PEO/P.Eng. membership is an asset.
  • 5+ years' experience in control systems in the power, process steam plants, oil and gas or petrochemical industry.
  • The following experience is required: Creating/Reviewing/modifying P&IDs, Logic diagrams, Cause and Effect and Critical Settings documentation.
  • Reviewing and modifying electrical schematics, P&IDs.
  • On-site commissioning, troubleshooting, performance testing and start-ups.
  • Calibrating and testing instrumentation and electrical components is an asset.
  • Previous power and process plants, refinery or gas plant operations experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience in a fabrication environment is an asset.
  • Experience with an EPCM company is an asset.
  • Design, installation, and operation of Steam generating and gas processing equipment in Combined cycle, Power and process plants.

Work Environment

Specific Work Conditions

  • Work is performed in an office setting with usual weekday office hours.
  • Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Requires the ability to deal with a diversity of people when responding to interdepartmental inquiries.
  • Coping with frequent interruption and changing priorities.
  • Required to attend meetings at other buildings.
  • HUET training and certification.
  • May involve occasional project site visits, often with little notice.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods using a computer, reading manuals, etc...
  • Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away file boxes weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional ability to stand for extended periods for faxing, scanning, and photocopying.
  • Manual dexterity for data input, paperwork and use of standard office equipment.
  • Climbing, kneeling, crouching, and crawling when examining equipment.
  • Must wear company-standard PPE when entering fabrication shops, yards, and project sites. Project site PPE includes CSA approved steel toed boots and long pants.
  • Walking on uneven ground is to be expected in yards and at project sites.
