Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Commodities Manager to join our team at Loblaw Companies Limited. As a key member of our procurement and sourcing team, you will be responsible for managing cost increase reviews and commodity expertise for our Centre of Store (Grocery) operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cost Increase Management
    • Review, analyze, and communicate findings on all supplier proposed cost changes with a strategic mindset and high level of autonomy.
    • Facilitate the process of each negotiation, coordinating with other members of the commodities team, costing, procurement, and merchandising.
    • Meet with suppliers to advocate our position and drive successful resolution.
  • Cost Improvement and Strategic Sourcing
    • Enable cost improvement throughout the business by leveraging market data and performance insights.
    • Create materials supporting cost improvement initiatives and lead conversations with vendors to deliver results.
    • Leverage business trends and category and supplier performance data to identify opportunities for cost reductions.
  • Process Improvement
    • Work with the team to expand on other incremental business opportunities, including process automation and enhancement of commodity market analytics publications.
    • Partner with costing, procurement, and vendors to socialize compliance policies and ensure adherence to our required practices.
    Requirements
    • University degree in business, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
    • 3-5 years related experience with foundational understanding of commodity markets, procurement, or merchandising.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to apply new knowledge.
    • Sophisticated Microsoft Excel skills, including experience with macros.
    • Ability to self-initiate and work independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong written and oral communication, and time management skills.
