Job Summary:

The Buyer plays a crucial role in managing Ampco's procurement operations, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and compliant sourcing of materials to meet production and business needs. This position is accountable for driving supplier performance, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and maintaining efficient procurement processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Place orders based on requisitions from Production Planners, Supervisors, and other authorized personnel, ensuring alignment with operational priorities.
  • Manage all aspects of procurement, including tracking shipment schedules, maintaining accurate ERP records, and providing timely updates to stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain supplier relationships, including onboarding new suppliers, managing supplier quality records, and assisting with supplier evaluations.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to resolve issues such as defective materials, pricing discrepancies, and delivery delays.
  • Conduct cost analyses and identify opportunities for savings and process improvements.
  • Request and manage quotes, coordinate transportation for shipments, and ensure compliance with all relevant standards and certifications.
  • Provide materials data and samples for Sales or Production teams as required.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including Estimating, Finance, Production, and Sales, to align procurement activities with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with inventory control teams to ensure accurate stock levels and minimize overstock or shortages.
  • Stay informed of industry trends and emerging products or services through supplier engagement and research.
  • Build and maintain robust purchasing files and records to support audits and reporting.
  • Handle material deviation reports and drive corrective actions to mitigate risk.
  • Perform other duties and special projects to support departmental and organizational goals.

What You Bring to Ampco:

  • Minimum 3+ years of procurement experience in a manufacturing environment, with a proven track record in supplier management and cost optimization.
  • Professional designation in Supply Chain Management (SCMP) or equivalent is preferred but not required.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to provide practical solutions and insights.
  • A high degree of accountability, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • A proactive and results-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Collaborative approach, with strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships across departments and with suppliers.
