Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Primary Care Paramedic to join our team at Alberta Health Services. As a Primary Care Paramedic, you will play a critical role in providing patient care and transportation services to our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess emergency scenes and patients, and provide medical care as needed.
- Transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities.
- Operate ambulances or other modes of transportation.
- Administer minor medications, basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, and semi-automated defibrillation.
- Lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes.
- Ensure that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles are properly stocked and equipped.
Requirements:
- Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as an Primary Care Paramedic (PCP).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).
- Valid class 4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent.
- Five (5) year driver abstract current within six (6) months with no more than six (6) demerits prior to commencing work.
- Proof of the successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (FARE) test.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum 6 months experience working as posted designation in EMS frontline operations.
- Current, relevant experience as an AHS employee working in; Metro EMS, dedicated Intra-facility transport, and Suburban/Rural EMS.
Working Conditions:
The working environment for an Primary Care Paramedic is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. Travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (backcountry) is required. Direct exposure to bodily fluids and hazardous and graphic scenes is also possible.
Physical Demands:
The working conditions for an Primary Care Paramedic are also physically demanding. Successful applicants must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105lbs, while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. Frequent, simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods is also required. Primary Care Paramedics must also stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, side-carry up to 20lbs in each hand and assume awkward positions.
