About the Role

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Department Head to join our team at the University of Manitoba. As a key member of our academic leadership team, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight to our department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality academic programs and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Academic Leadership
    • Provide strategic direction and oversight to the department, ensuring alignment with university goals and objectives.
    • Lead and manage a team of faculty and staff, promoting a culture of excellence and innovation.
    • Develop and implement academic policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with university regulations.
  • Research and Scholarship
    • Encourage and support research and scholarship among faculty and students, promoting a culture of discovery and innovation.
    • Develop and implement research initiatives, collaborating with internal and external partners.
  • Teaching and Learning
    • Oversee the development and delivery of academic programs, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning experiences.
    • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement curriculum, ensuring alignment with university goals and objectives.
  • Departmental Administration
    • Manage departmental budgets, ensuring effective use of resources.
    • Oversee departmental operations, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of services.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Doctoral degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in academic leadership, preferably in a department head or similar role.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ability to think strategically, with a focus on innovation and excellence.
