About the Role

The Department Head will provide strategic leadership and direction to the department, ensuring alignment with the University of Manitoba's goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise on research matters and provide guidance to faculty members
  • Advise students on course and academic matters, as well as career decisions
  • Conduct laboratory sessions and research in the field of specialization
  • Conduct seminars and discussion groups, and direct research programs of graduate students
  • May serve on faculty committees dealing with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues
  • Prepare special lectures and presentations for conferences and consultations
  • Prepare, administer, and grade assigned work
  • Teach one or more university subjects and perform administrative tasks
  • May serve on faculty committees concerned with matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, staffing, and course and diploma requirements
  • Recommend and approve faculty appointments
  • Participate in interdisciplinary research and development projects
Requirements
  • Provincial or territorial licence
  • Applied statistics and mathematics experience
  • Health sciences experience
  • Strategic planning experience
Work Environment

The Department Head will work in a fast-paced environment with a large caseload and workload, and will be required to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
