Job Summary

The City of Whitehorse is seeking a highly skilled Project Coordinator to support the department's project management and energy management activities. This role will assist the Engineering Project Officers with coordinating project management activities, including project start-up, easement identification, and utility upgrades.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate project start-up activities, including funding applications, meeting coordination, and site preparation.
  • Identify and negotiate easements with property owners, and assist with land acquisitions.
  • Liaise with utility contractors for upgrades to power, telephone, cell service, and fiber optics data infrastructure.
  • Coordinate the design and construction of in-house capital infrastructure projects, and support consultant-controlled projects.
  • Review reports and designs for compliance with building codes and sound engineering principles.
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of technical data, and undertake studies and research for project reporting.
  • Prepare and evaluate tenders, quotations, proposal calls, and reports.
  • Monitor supplier quality management, adherence to safety standards, and coordinate progress reviews.
  • Complete project close-out activities, including compliance review, clean-up operation, and maintenance manuals.
  • Provide technical expertise and information updates to City departments.
  • Contribute to the organizational monitoring and reporting of annual energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Prepare and monitor annual operating and capital budgets.
Requirements
  • Fifth class power Engineering Certificate, or equivalent.
  • Valid Yukon Class 5 driver's license.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience in building operation, maintenance, and construction, project construction, contract law, and construction administration.
  • 6 months on-the-job training.
  • Knowledge of National and Territorial Building Codes.
  • Project and people management skills, including decision making/problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational, prioritizing, and multitasking skills, and ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to foster and maintain effective relationships among peers and/or stakeholders.
Working Conditions

Hours of work: 5x8 hours shifts. Work environment is mixed, between time spent in an office environment and at construction sites where the incumbent may be exposed to confined spaces, noise, dust, dirt, fumes, odors, grease, oil, traffic, dangerous goods, ladders, roofs, uneven terrain.

Equipment to Operate

Vehicles, including aerial work platform and light City vehicles, such as pick-up trucks complete with trailer and load. Tools, including common hand and power tools, testing, calibration, recording, custodial. Specialized safety equipment, including but limited to fall arrest and Confined Space entry. Office equipment, including MS Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project), GIS, AutoCAD, and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) computerized maintenance management system.
