We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Control Systems Designer to join our team at ATS Automation. As a key member of our Controls Engineering Department, you will be responsible for designing and developing complete controls solutions and electrical design packages based on customer specifications and standardized design practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with mechanical designers to design control systems that enable machines to perform their intended functions safely and reliably.
  • Develop and produce complete electrical design packages, including detailed electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics, cable routing diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials, and material requisitions.
  • Work with other members of the Controls Engineering Department and other groups to improve methods of integrating controls technology, enhancing safety, functionality, and reducing costs.
  • Specify electrical and controls-related hardware and software, and produce requisitions for material purchases.
  • Integrate third-party equipment and electronic components into electrical design packages.
  • Verify that electrical design packages are complete, accurate, and safe, and that I/O drawings meet program requirements.
  • Work with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers, and electricians to solve problems and provide complete, functional systems.
  • Provide customers with training on electrical hardware, machine operation, programming principles, program functionality, and program structure.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Work in compliance with divisional health, safety, and environmental procedures.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with a post-secondary technology diploma or engineering degree or equivalent, specializing in electronics, electrical, or controls technology. Three years of experience in electrical control systems design, preferably in the industrial automation field, is required. A working knowledge of ePlan and AutoCAD, as well as the ability to keep abreast of leading-edge technology, is essential.
