POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is seeking a dedicated and proactive Nurse Practitioner (NP) to enhance our Eating Disorders Program. This role requires a self-driven professional with a proven history of advancing NP roles in healthcare environments. The successful candidate will demonstrate innovative clinical leadership and work in close collaboration with our inter-professional team to improve treatment pathways for individuals facing eating disorders. Candidates should have a strong background in building positive, collaborative relationships with physicians, staff, and healthcare partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care.
  • Engage in teamwork within a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including history-taking and physical examinations, to establish diagnoses.
  • Initiate treatment orders, medications, and diagnostic tests based on clinical findings, coordinating with SAH physicians and primary care providers as necessary.
  • Create individualized medical treatment plans for patients, ensuring they are implemented by other care providers.
  • Facilitate transitions to other addiction and mental health services during the discharge process, including primary care connections.
  • Evaluate clinical outcomes based on professional judgment and patient progress.
  • Document discharge summaries detailing diagnoses, treatments, and instructions for follow-up care.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical pathways, order sets, and medical directives for patient care.
  • Refer patients to other healthcare providers as appropriate.
  • Act as a consultant and resource for the healthcare team and community as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Certificate of Registration as RN (EC) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Currently enrolled in the Opioid Use Disorder Treatment (OUDT) course through the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).
  • Currently enrolled in the Addiction Care & Treatment Certificate program (UBC).
  • Currently enrolled in Sublocade Certification.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to practice autonomously, utilizing the full scope of Nurse Practitioner practice as per the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) standards.
  • Guided by the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) framework for Nurse Practitioner competencies.
  • Demonstrated leadership in developing and evaluating NP roles in new programs.
  • Perform responsibilities in compliance with legislative and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments to diagnose conditions, focusing on mental health and addiction support.
  • Effectively communicate health assessment findings and diagnoses to clients.
  • Provide evidence-based treatment for adults with mental health and/or addiction disorders.
  • Understand social determinants of health and their impact on marginalized populations.
  • Implement trauma-informed care practices.
  • Deliver biopsychosocial support for individuals experiencing acute intoxication or withdrawal.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and community services as required.
  • Provide direct care to manage both acute and chronic health conditions within a holistic framework.
  • Advise clients on harm reduction strategies, withdrawal management, and health maintenance.
  • Foster professional relationships with multidisciplinary team members and community agencies.
  • Work with inter-professional teams to identify and address healthcare priorities.
  • Supervise and educate other clinical staff as necessary.
  • Analyze population health trends to design services promoting recovery and healthy living.
  • Assist in developing standards, guidelines, and policies for mental health and addiction services.
  • Participate in program-related meetings and committees as required.
  • Lead the creation of medical directives, teaching protocols, and patient education materials to ensure high-quality care.
  • Serve as a mentor and coach to nursing colleagues and other healthcare team members.
  • Exemplify professional behavior aligned with the Hospital's Mission, Values, and Standards of Performance.
