Key Responsibilities

Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Grade 12 education, completion of a Community Support Worker, Addictions Counselling Skills, or Mental Health Worker Certificate, plus one year of recent, related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
  • Knowledge of addiction and harm reduction principles.
  • Ability to handle and diffuse conflict.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform reception duties, including meeting and greeting clients, taking and relaying telephone messages, and escorting clients to and from treatment rooms/offices.
  • Observe, monitor, and document changes in clients' physical and cognitive status post-injection, informing clinical staff as required.
  • Perform general word processing and data entry functions, including inputting client information into relevant computerized systems.
  • Participate in emergency situations by performing CPR and/or alerting emergency medical services.
  • Work with the clinic team to manage the clinic environment, assisting with diffusing hostile clients and performing client searches.
  • Accompany clients to appointments, including doctors, court, and hospital appointments.
  • Run errands, including picking up/dropping off laboratory specimens and supplies.
  • Provide support in the clinic/treatment rooms, performing duties such as setting up and dismantling rooms and general tidying.
  • Deliver and dispose of supplies, biological materials, and equipment, following established procedures.
  • Schedule and confirm client appointments, receiving appointment requests or referrals, and entering client information into applicable computer systems.
  • Maintain inventories of clinic supplies and equipment, monitoring inventory levels, identifying requirements, and processing requisitions.
  • Provide general information and literature to clients regarding harm reduction supports and available clinic services.
  • Order health promotion materials and ensure they are stocked and replenished.
  • Maintain filing systems, including filing, labeling, and ensuring appropriate documentation is maintained on file.
  • Assist with security functions, including checking doors are locked and alarms activated, escorting unwelcome visitors out of the building, and reporting incidents to appropriate staff or authorities.
  • Assist with client intake, interviewing clients, obtaining information, completing required documentation, and entering information into applicable database systems.
  • Participate as a member of the team, attending quality improvement meetings, and supporting the completion of quality improvement initiatives.
Vaccination Requirement

As per the current Public Health Orders, all employees working for Providence Health Care must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
