Position Overview

The Student Research Assistant will assist the Co-Investigators in conducting research for a project funded by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General for the Province of British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance and support of the Co-Investigators, the successful candidate will:

  • Participate in strategic planning meetings
  • Gather, organize, and catalog pertinent research documents
  • Perform comprehensive literature reviews
  • Analyze criminal court case data
Qualifications for Success

To be considered for this role, candidates must have successfully completed (Grade C+ or higher) one of the following courses:

  • CRIM 2254: Research Methods in Criminology
  • CYCC 4423: Research Methods in CYC
  • PSYC 2301: Research Methods in Psychology
  • SOCI 2260: Introduction to Sociological Research
  • SOWK 4160: Research Methods in Social Work

Additionally, it is preferred that candidates have completed (Grade B+ or higher) one of the following courses:

  • CRIM 3325: Qualitative Research Methods
  • SOSC 3399: Directed Studies in Social Sciences
Eligibility Criteria for Domestic Students

Domestic students must meet ONE of the following conditions to qualify for the position:

  1. Enrolled in, and maintaining, at least one (3 credit) course at Douglas College during the work term; OR
  2. Have been enrolled in, and maintained, at least one (3 credit) course at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and intend to enroll in the following term; OR
  3. Enrolled in, and maintaining, at least two (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. during the work term; OR
  4. Have been enrolled in, and maintained, at least two (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and intend to enroll in the following term.
Eligibility Criteria for International Students

International students must meet ONE of the following conditions to qualify for the position:

  1. Enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year; OR
  2. International students at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit that allows employment on or off campus, provided they meet eligibility criteria. Proof of full-time enrollment from the other institution is required.

All candidates must provide an original copy of a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and an original Study Permit as required by law before commencing work.

Qualified Douglas College students will be prioritized for this opportunity.
