Position Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Clinical Psychologist

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a dedicated Clinical Psychologist to become part of our Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Support team.

The ideal candidate will collaborate with a team of psychologists to deliver assessment, intervention, and consultation services to adults facing physical disabilities engaged in multidisciplinary rehabilitation. Experience in Health and/or Rehabilitation Psychology, particularly with traumatic injuries, adaptation to disability, and chronic health conditions in medical environments, is highly valued.

Responsibilities of the Psychologist at Vancouver Coastal Health include:

Overseeing psychological services within a designated area of the facility/program. Functioning both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team to conduct psychological assessments, deliver treatment, assess treatment effectiveness, and educate clients. Maintaining comprehensive client records, including diagnosis documentation and treatment effectiveness, while preparing progress notes and psychological reports. Collaborating with external organizations and establishing effective working relationships with stakeholders. Participating in clinical and case conferences. Offering formal and informal consultations, and engaging in quality improvement and risk management initiatives. Providing clinical education, supervision, and guidance to Psychology Residents, Post-Doctoral Fellows, and students as necessary, while also participating in research activities.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

A doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from an accredited institution. A minimum of two (2) years of recent relevant experience in therapeutic, diagnostic, and consultation services within mental health and substance use. Current registration with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia or eligibility for registration within two years of employment. A valid Class V driver's license and access to a personal vehicle with appropriate insurance when necessary.

Knowledge & Skills

Understanding of recovery principles in mental health. Proficiency in psychological assessment methods, including semi-structured diagnostic assessments. Familiarity with therapeutic, diagnostic, and consultation methodologies. Knowledge of treatment strategies for anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and psychological trauma. Awareness of Psychosocial Rehabilitation practices. Understanding of psychopharmacology, including indications and side effects, as well as substance use and addiction treatment. Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and Harm Reduction strategies, along with Strengths-based approaches. Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety. Familiarity with adult education principles and methodologies. Understanding of other healthcare disciplines and their roles in client care. Knowledge of evidence-based psychological practices. Proven ability to work effectively as a team member, leader, and facilitator. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with clients, families, team members, and community agency personnel. Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively. Proven ability to provide effective consultation. Demonstrated teaching and supervisory skills. Ability to adapt to new or unexpected situations, solve problems, and manage conflict effectively. Proven ability to prioritize workload in collaboration with others. Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Basic computer skills for operating client care information systems and standard office software.

The working hours, including days off and work area, may be subject to change based on operational needs and relevant agreements.
