Providence Health Care is seeking a permanent, part-time Clinical Psychologist to join our interdisciplinary team at the Heart Center. This role is pivotal in expanding mental health services for patients with congenital heart disease, within a facility renowned for its leadership in cardiac treatment and education.

In collaboration with a skilled team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and social workers, you will be responsible for the development, management, and delivery of psychological services to patients aged 18 and older. This includes support for newly diagnosed patients and those transitioning from pediatric care.

Position Responsibilities

Reporting to the Program Director of the Heart Centre and under the clinical guidance of the Professional Practice Leader in Psychology, the Clinical Psychologist will oversee psychological services within the Heart Centre Ambulatory Programs. This role involves:

  • Providing individual and group therapy to clients and their families.
  • Engaging in research activities related to the psychological dimensions of heart disease.
  • Participating in program planning, evaluation, and interdisciplinary team meetings.

Qualifications and Skills

Education: Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an accredited institution, along with a minimum of one year of supervised internship experience. A minimum of two years of relevant experience in a medical setting providing a wide array of psychological services, including neuro-cognitive assessments, is required. Registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia is also necessary within one year of employment.

  • Proficient in therapeutic, diagnostic, and consultation techniques.
  • Knowledgeable in psychological assessment and treatment methodologies.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with clients and their families.
  • Capable of conducting clinical supervision and teaching.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize workload collaboratively.

Additional Responsibilities

The Clinical Psychologist will also:

  • Coordinate the development and management of psychological services within the Heart Centre.
  • Evaluate treatment effectiveness and identify opportunities for quality improvement.
  • Conduct psychological assessments and develop tailored treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate client records and provide consultation to interdisciplinary team members.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in psychology and cardiac health.
