About the Role

TransAlta Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Wind Technician to join our team at our Big Level Wind Operations site in Pennsylvania. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of our wind turbines.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing operations and maintenance strategies to optimize turbine performance and minimize downtime. This will involve working closely with our team of wind technicians and contractors to ensure that all maintenance and repair activities are completed accurately, on time, and to a high standard.

This is a full-time salaried position that requires a strong understanding of wind turbine operations and maintenance, as well as excellent problem-solving and communication skills. Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement operations and maintenance strategies to optimize turbine performance and minimize downtime
  • Work closely with our team of wind technicians and contractors to ensure that all maintenance and repair activities are completed accurately, on time, and to a high standard
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and TransAlta's operating procedures and policies
  • Drive for results in the areas of safety, compliance, plant availability, and cost by ensuring all routine and preventative maintenance is performed accurately, on time, and to a high standard
  • Support the Supervisor as part of a high-performance team of employees and contractors to achieve the expected outcomes of the plants
  • Adequately trained, qualified, and competent in their roles and compliant with training
  • Ability to identify and mitigate risk that could negatively impact the agreed outcomes or business results, and identify and realize opportunities that could positively impact the agreed outcomes or business results
  • Contribute to a collaborative work environment within the team, peers, stakeholders, and support groups to ensure issues may be resolved in a professional and productive manner
Requirements
  • Familiarity with wind turbines, particularly GE platforms
  • Appropriate certification or education in a related discipline, and/or possess tangible and proven experience and skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within own discipline and knowledge of others
  • Understanding of the operational aspects of the plant - technical, compliance, and financial
  • Thorough understanding of the TransAlta operation model
  • Plant risk and related mitigation strategies
  • Good understanding of contractor requirements, procurement processes, and inventory management
  • Thorough understanding of how related teams coordinate their efforts and resources to achieve objectives
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and irregular hours, as required
  • As this is a safety-sensitive position, successful completion of required pre-employment testing is a condition of employment
