Position Overview

The Government of Nunavut is seeking a skilled Powerline Technician to ensure the installation, upkeep, and repair of both overhead and underground electrical lines and cables. This role is vital for maintaining the integrity of power services across the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of powerline systems and associated equipment to optimize performance and reliability.
  • Respond to emergencies involving powerline systems, executing repairs and replacements as necessary.
  • Travel to various locations to perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and equipment installations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and collaborate with operational staff to ensure documentation is up-to-date.
  • Log all materials utilized during construction and repairs, reporting to the Line Supervisor accordingly.
  • Provide immediate solutions during outages to restore service while minimizing risks to equipment.
  • Uphold a clean and safe working environment, proactively suggesting improvements for operational efficiency.
  • Adhere to all relevant corporate policies, as well as territorial, provincial, and national regulations regarding health, safety, and environmental standards.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Powerline Technician recognized within the province.
  • Possession of a Class 3 driver's license with an airbrake endorsement, meeting all vehicle insurance requirements.

Preferred Skills:

  • Red Seal certification is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the culture, language, and geography of Nunavut is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, or French is considered an asset.
