Position Overview

The Speech Pathologist will report directly to the Manager of Speech Language Pathology. This role involves providing comprehensive assessment and treatment programs for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. The Speech Pathologist will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, instruct and mentor students, and offer education to clients, families, staff, and the community. Participation in ongoing program development and non-clinical activities is expected, along with travel to various facilities and community sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough assessments and implement treatment plans for clients with communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary team evaluations and treatment strategies.
  • Provide training and supervision to students and staff.
  • Participate in program development and community outreach initiatives.
  • Adhere to established health and safety regulations and report any concerns promptly.

Experience Requirements

  • Experience working with geriatric and neurologically impaired populations.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing communication disorders stemming from neurological conditions.
  • Background in assessing and managing dysphagia.
  • Experience in delivering in-service training for both professional and non-professional staff.
  • Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication methods.
  • Experience in managing neurogenic and functional voice disorders.

Educational Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution is required.

Licensure and Certification

  • Must hold registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Manitoba (CASLPM). Membership in other professional organizations is encouraged.
  • CPR training must comply with organizational policies.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle are necessary.

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of the vision, values, and objectives of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and workplace safety protocols.
  • Current knowledge of assessment and treatment practices in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound professional judgment and empathy in client interactions.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours as needed.
  • May involve exposure to various health-related risks.
  • Capable of managing challenging interactions with clients and visitors.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. Please note that employees are not permitted to hold multiple positions that combine to exceed 1.0 EFT.
