KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a clinical expert and mentor in Acute Surgical Care, providing guidance to the interdisciplinary healthcare team;
  • Employ advanced assessment techniques and comprehensive knowledge of clinical therapeutics to make informed clinical decisions and deliver holistic patient care for individuals requiring surgical intervention;
  • Enhance collaborative care by actively participating in team meetings, acting as a bridge between patients, healthcare professionals, and physicians.
  • Coordinate with the patient's primary care provider and community resources to ensure smooth transitions during intake and discharge from Acute Care Services;
  • Engage in the development and assessment of ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid RN (EC) registration with the Ontario College of Nurses, along with a Nurse Practitioner certification in either Acute Care or Primary Care;
  • A Master's degree in Nursing is mandatory;
  • Membership in the RNAO and the Nurse Practitioner's Association of Ontario is essential;
  • Certification in a relevant surgical nursing specialty (such as Medical-Surgical, PeriAnesthesia, Orthopaedics, or Perioperative) is required, or a commitment to achieve this within 18 months;
  • Proven NP experience with a minimum of 2 years in surgical nursing is necessary;
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience in caring for surgical patients;
  • Familiarity with hospital nursing operations, current nursing needs, and the healthcare system, particularly regarding surgical patient pathways;
  • Demonstrated experience in adult education, health coaching, and client self-management, along with strong case management capabilities;
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to relate effectively to all members of the healthcare team, including patients and families;
  • Proven negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within an inter-professional team;
  • Strong organizational, conceptual, and leadership abilities, with a knack for prioritizing tasks efficiently;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to exercise independent judgment and address challenges effectively;
  • Self-motivated learner who actively seeks opportunities for professional development and enhancement of client care;
  • Commitment to a philosophy centered on patient and family care;
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing clinical circumstances;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise initiative;
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Meditech and Microsoft Office, is advantageous;
  • A satisfactory performance record is required;

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

Employment terms are governed by the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051).
