DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Patient Care Manager for the Operating Room, PACU, and Day Surgery oversees the Surgical Program and reports directly to the Director.

This role encompasses the administration of the Operating Room, Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit, and Day Surgery at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

Collaborating closely with all healthcare professionals and surgical leadership, the successful candidate will leverage their strategic planning, budgeting, and problem-solving abilities to ensure:

the formulation of unit and program protocols; effective staff management; and the development/support of business objectives aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies and optimizing interdisciplinary teamwork.

Additionally, the Patient Care Manager will design, facilitate, and support the adoption of evidence-based processes and practices to deliver exceptional patient care.

With a strong personal drive, the incumbent will strive to achieve unit outcomes while establishing goals and priorities that maximize resource utilization, inspiring others to work towards shared objectives by engaging and empowering staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field;
  • Master’s degree or current enrollment in a Master’s program (preferred);
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Perioperative Nursing Certification preferred;
  • Membership in ORNAC preferred;
  • Proven recent experience in a clinical environment;
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent experience in operating room management;
  • A strong interest in process re-engineering, planning, and implementation;
  • Demonstrated success in achieving results that enhance organizational performance and foster confidence and commitment;
  • Proven leadership capabilities that cultivate a high-performance culture through effective change management strategies;
  • Comprehensive understanding of hospital operations and current healthcare trends;
  • Knowledge of and ability to navigate Collective Agreements and Labour Relations matters;
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation, standards, and best practice guidelines;
  • Strong problem-solving and critical analysis skills;
  • Proven management expertise in financial, human resources, quality improvement, project planning, risk management, and utilization management;
  • Well-honed negotiation and conflict resolution skills;
  • Effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in utilizing communication tools;
  • Current B.C.L.S. certification;
