Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Practical Nurse to join our team at the William Osler Health System. As a key member of our inter-professional healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient-focused nursing care to patients with less complex needs and predictable outcomes in our Cardiology Unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver safe and effective nursing care through the nursing process, ensuring patient safety and well-being.
  • Provide professional, patient-centered care in a compassionate and caring manner, respecting diverse cultural environments.
  • Practice according to infection control and prevention measures, responding to emergency situations and consulting appropriately.
  • Teach patients and families about health and provide thorough discharge instructions to ensure continuity of care.
Requirements
  • Recent cardiology experience within the last five years, with a minimum of two years acute medicine experience.
  • Coronary Care 1 certification required.
  • Ability to pass an arrhythmia interview quiz with an 80% score and a cardiology challenge exam within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience performing 12-lead ECG and rhythm interpretation within the last two years.
  • Preferred experience in care of patients with TPN, NG tubes, chest tubes, wound care, enteral feeds, IV therapy, blood collection, and isolation.
Core Competencies
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Sound knowledge of nursing process, theory, and responsibilities to the nursing profession.
  • BCLS certification required.
  • Medication Administration certificate and patient assessment course required for RPNs graduating prior to 2005.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional team.
  • Knowledge of patient and family-centered care.
  • Experience with patient and family health teaching.
  • Leadership and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Exemplary clinical practice within an inter-professional team.
  • Ability to prioritize patient care needs and make autonomous decisions.
  • Excellent physical assessment skills.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • Excellent attendance, punctuality, and work record.
Additional Information

Hours: Currently Days/Evenings, 8 hour shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements).

Salary: Minimum $34.26 per hour, Maximum $37.05 per hour.
