CANDU Reactor Technician

Candu Energy Inc., a subsidiary of AtkinsRéalis, is engaged in a significant contract to provide engineering, technology, and procurement services for tooling and reactor components. This initiative supports the life extension of a CANDU reactor at a nuclear power facility. As a leader in CANDU technology, AtkinsRéalis plays a pivotal role in reactor life extension projects globally.
This role is integral to the Manufacturing team, focusing on the assessment, assembly, and testing of CANDU6 Retube tooling. The selected candidate will work in a nuclear facility, which may involve both contaminated and low-level contamination work areas. This position emphasizes hands-on involvement and a collaborative team spirit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure a safe and organized work environment by adhering to company protocols.
- Assemble, repair, and maintain nuclear inspection and mockup equipment.
- Engage in equipment testing initiatives.
- Prepare documentation and route sheets.
- Complete prioritized work requests efficiently.
- Become certified as a nuclear energy worker (NEW).
- Willingness to travel to vendor and project sites as necessary.
- Maintain and refurbish contaminated nuclear tooling.
Essential Requirements:
- Diploma in mechanical technology or equivalent technical experience.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in mechanical assembly, testing, or repair of nuclear inspection tooling and related equipment.
- Proficiency in hands-on tooling skills; trade qualifications are advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Visio, and SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of nuclear standards is a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated manual dexterity and skill.
- Understanding of established engineering design principles.
- Proactive and collaborative team player.
- Familiarity with industrial shop practices.
- Experience with forklifts and overhead cranes is beneficial.
- Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics; Swagelok training is a plus.
- Coordinate manufacturing and RP tasks as needed.
