About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Probabilistic Safety Analyst to join our team at AtkinsRéalis. As a key member of our Probabilistic Safety Analysis department, you will be responsible for developing and applying advanced analysis methodologies to perform probabilistic safety assessments and other safety analyses for existing and new CANDU Nuclear Power Plants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct probabilistic safety assessments of plant systems, including internal events, shutdown, internal fire, internal flood, and seismic events, as well as other external hazards.
  • Conduct reliability systems assessments, including safety systems, balance of plant, and plant operation and safety-related systems.
  • Interface with clients and projects to assess operational and safety issues and advise on potential solutions.
  • Prepare and/or review work proposals for internal and external clients.
  • Develop risk monitors and generate risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of PSA methodologies, codes, and standards, including Canadian, US, and IAEA.
  • Develop, plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the analysis work for large-scale projects.
  • Propose and develop approaches for safety analysis tasks.
  • Coordinate work with all interfaces, including project management and multidisciplinary analysis teams.
  • Supervise the work of staff in a multi-discipline setting and be accountable for the quality of work performed.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to engineers at lower grade levels and/or other technical employees.
  • Provide positive reinforcement and act proactively to encourage positive relationships and teamwork.
  • Ensure work is performed consistent with project requirements.
Requirements
  • A relevant degree from a university of recognized standing in Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out responsibilities noted above.
  • Excellent knowledge of the CANDU design, including both NSP (especially safety systems) and BOP.
  • Broad knowledge of system operation, plant response, and understanding of underlying reliability principles.
  • Able to work closely and effectively with clients in a client/consultant relationship.
  • Proficient in CAFTA suite of computer codes, CFAST, and/or RiskSpectrum (an asset).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible, i.e., must be able to perform varied work assignments effectively and respond quickly to changing project needs.
  • Proven leadership skills, as technical guidance to assist and supervise analysts, communication skills.
  • Experience in licensing activities would also be an asset.
  • Understanding of light water reactor design and PSAs (an asset).
  • Ability to show initiative while working in a team environment.
  • Ability to work to budget and schedule. Must be willing to travel occasionally to participate in walkdowns, meetings, and workshops.
  • Eligible for nuclear energy worker (NEW).
  • Full commitment to working in a formal QA environment.
