Airport Operations Dispatchers play a crucial role in maintaining operational protocols through a thorough understanding of emergency management, safety regulations, and customer relations.

Position Summary

We are seeking a full-time opportunity for an Airport Operations Dispatcher (AOD) within the Airport Operations Department, reporting directly to the Operations Centre Manager. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, adeptly managing a wealth of information from diverse sources. Strong verbal and written communication skills are vital for effective dispatching during both routine operations and emergency situations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and utilize alarm systems, radios, telecommunication devices, emails, and digital platforms to coordinate operational personnel, maintenance teams, and emergency services, ensuring continuous safety and security on Sea Island.
  • Assess priorities, delegate tasks, and communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, government entities, and stakeholders.
  • Accurately document detailed operational information related to activities on Sea Island.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Incident Command protocols relevant to airside, terminal-side, and groundside operations.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple tasks and emergencies while documenting actions in the operational management system.
  • Address inquiries from customers and the general public through various communication channels.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a dispatch or call-taking role, or relevant aviation experience, complemented by a minimum of a high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required; additional language skills are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with various computer applications is essential (including Maximo, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Everbridge, Barco Sidebar, Adobe, etc.), along with fast typing abilities, strong grammar, and precise spelling.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Capable of making swift decisions with limited information and efficiently prioritizing tasks without direct supervision.
  • Must demonstrate confidence, resilience, strong multitasking abilities, a level-headed demeanor, and a collaborative spirit.

This position is available to both current employees of the Vancouver Airport Authority and external candidates. Previous job performance will be considered for internal applicants.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $68,011 to $88,886 per annum, based on a standard 37.5-hour work week. This is tailored to reflect individual experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
