Position Summary

We are offering a full-time, term opportunity for an Airport Operations Dispatcher (AOD) within the Airport Operations Department, reporting directly to the Operations Centre Manager. To excel in this role, candidates must thrive in high-pressure situations while managing substantial information from multiple sources concurrently. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective dispatching during both emergency scenarios and routine operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and utilize alarm systems, radios, telecommunication devices, emails, and digital platforms to coordinate operational personnel, maintenance teams, and emergency services, ensuring continuous safety and security on Sea Island.
  • Assess priorities, delegate tasks, and communicate effectively with colleagues, internal and external contractors, governmental bodies, and stakeholders.
  • Accurately document and track detailed operational information related to activities on Sea Island.
  • Maintain a thorough and current understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Incident Command protocols pertaining to airside, terminal-side, and groundside operations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to multi-task and manage various situations or emergencies simultaneously while documenting actions in Maximo.
  • Address inquiries from customers and the general public through various communication channels.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a dispatch or call-taking role, or relevant aviation experience, complemented by a minimum of a high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required; knowledge of additional languages is advantageous.
  • Comfortable using various computer applications (Maximo, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Everbridge, Barco Sidebar, Adobe, etc.) with fast typing skills, strong grammar, and accurate spelling.
  • Able to perform effectively in high-pressure environments.
  • Capable of making swift decisions with limited information and prioritizing tasks efficiently.
  • Must exhibit confidence, resilience, strong multi-tasking abilities, a level-headed demeanor, and a collaborative spirit.

This position is available to both internal employees of the Vancouver Airport Authority and external candidates. Previous job performance will be considered for all internal applicants.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $68,011 to $88,886 per annum, based on a standard 37.5-hour work week. This range is tailored to reflect individual experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
