Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Worker to join our team at WJS Canada. As an Overnight Youth Worker, you will play a vital role in providing a safe and supportive environment for children and youth in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure a consistent, healthy, and safe environment for children and youth, including regular bed checks every 30 minutes.
  • Provide nighttime supports as required, which may include comforting/soothing from bad dreams, changing sheets (bed wetting), etc.
  • Perform cleaning tasks, meal preparation, and research community and cultural events and activities for the youth.
  • Complete paperwork, including log books, contact notes, medication, and critical incident reports.
  • Assist with wake-up calls, morning routines, and breakfast preparation.
  • Drive school-aged children to school on school days.
  • Be a positive role model, empathetic listener, and teach/mentor age-appropriate living skills.
  • Assist with operation/maintenance of the home, including cleaning, laundry, and dishwashing.
  • Cooperate with other team members to plan, support, and deliver culturally appropriate programs, services, workshops, and outings.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in Child and Youth Work, in a group home and/or community setting.
  • Experience supporting/teaching Indigenous children/youth is an asset.
  • Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Work, or related field.
  • First Aid/CPR Certificate.
  • Suicide Intervention, Self-Harm, Crisis Intervention, and Medication Administration training.
  • Indigenous Awareness and cultural diversity training.
  • Able to work and follow WJS Canada policies and procedures and adhere to Alberta Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • MUST HAVE a valid driver's license for at least 3 years.
  • MUST HAVE excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
