Pediatric Critical Care Registered Nurse Position

This role is part of the Central Staffing Resource team, focusing on staffing assignments within the Pediatric Critical Care Cluster.

Units Covered:

  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
  • Pediatric Cardio-Thoracic Unit (PCTU)
  • 11W Moderate Care (10-bed unit)
Key Responsibilities

Pediatric Critical Care Duties:

Deliver safe and effective nursing care to a diverse patient population, ranging from infants to young adults. The position requires flexibility to float among various Pediatric Critical Care units, including the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Pediatric Cardio-Thoracic Unit (PCTU), and the 11W Moderate Care area. Proficiency in managing multiple pediatric specialties is essential. The role includes the administration of specialized intravenous (IV) medication drips and dosages, as well as the management of central venous lines. Patients often necessitate ventilatory support and hemodynamic monitoring. Family-centered care is emphasized through collaboration with the healthcare team to address the intricate care needs of this specialized pediatric demographic.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • At least one (1) year of recent experience in a Pediatric ICU setting.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification (PALS).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • Recent experience in Pediatric or Neonatal Critical Care.
  • Experience as a float RN in a Pediatric ICU environment.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification.
  • Familiarity with the nursing policies and practices of the University of Michigan Health System.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Experience with a family-centered care approach.
  • Proactive in pursuing professional development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to delegate tasks effectively to assistive personnel.
Work Schedule

Hours per Week: 36 hours/week
Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts
Location: Central Staffing Resource - Pediatric Critical Care
