Job Summary

Kunuwanimano Child & Family Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Child Welfare Investigator to join our team. As a key member of our intake and investigation unit, you will be responsible for conducting thorough investigations and assessments to ensure the safety and well-being of children and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct joint investigations and home visits with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of children.
  • Interview and assess all parties involved, including referral sources, children, and extended families.
  • Complete investigations and assessments to formulate safety, treatment, and service plans for children and families.
  • Link families to other agencies that can provide support for social, emotional, psychological, and physical well-being.
  • Consult with community partners to develop extended family and alternative care placements.
  • Document and coordinate all requirements for court hearings.
  • Appear as a witness in child welfare, criminal, or family court.
  • Prepare children and families for the transfer of services from investigation to ongoing services.
  • Collaborate with First Nation communities to explore options and alternative strategies to address complex issues affecting First Nations families.
  • Coordinate case management for high-risk files, ensuring early intervention and least disruptive measures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW) degree preferred, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in child welfare, including supervisory experience.
  • Extensive forensic experience and demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
  • Experience working with First Nations families and communities.
  • Knowledge of current legislation impacting the provision of services to Indigenous families and children.
