ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the Senior Finance and Accounting Manager will oversee the organization's financial operations, ensuring robust financial controls, data accuracy, and integrity. This role involves reconciling income and expenditures, generating internal and external financial reports, conducting cash flow analysis, and providing budgetary support and insights to management. The manager will collaborate closely with the Programs team, reviewing financial documents and audited statements from our community partners and assessing risks with recommendations for follow-up.

Key Responsibilities in Finance and Accounting (50%):

  • Manage the organization's accounting software, ensuring effective use and maintenance.
  • Maintain an accurate chart of accounts and balanced general ledger, including bank reconciliations and journal entries; identify any discrepancies or accounting issues.
  • Collaborate with the Donor Care team to ensure accurate recording and reconciliation of donation revenue.
  • Review and authorize financial transactions.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations between cash accounts and various databases.
  • Work with team members to enhance systems for tracking earmarked and restricted funds.
  • Partner with the Director of Finance and Operations to prepare and monitor cash-flow forecasts.
  • Manage daily interactions with banking institutions and related service providers.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget, supporting departments in budget creation and analysis.
  • Collaborate to facilitate the annual financial audit process.
  • Prepare necessary charity information returns and tax rebate applications.
  • Develop and maintain financial policies and procedural documentation.
  • Support the Fund Development team with financial aspects of proposals and reporting.

Programs-Specific Finance and Accounting Responsibilities (50%):

  • Collaborate with the Programs team to review financial reports and audited statements from partners.
  • Work together to enhance financial policies and procedures, strengthening the capacity of grassroots partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional CPA designation or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in Accounting or Finance, ideally within the non-profit sector.
  • Proficiency in Financial Statement presentation.
  • Experience with accounting software, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with flexibility and multitasking capabilities.
  • Strong organizational skills, including time management and prioritization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Understanding of issues related to health and social challenges is an asset.
