Job Description

The Toronto Star is seeking highly motivated and talented journalism students to join our Radio Room internship program. As a Radio Room reporter, you will work closely with our experienced team to cover breaking news and provide timely updates to our audience.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced news environment, develop your reporting and writing skills, and build your professional network. Our Radio Room is staffed 24/7 by post-secondary students working in shifts, and we are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor police, fire, and paramedic reports, as well as social media and other sources for breaking news
  • Provide quick tips to the newsroom and conduct original reporting for all Star platforms
  • Work effectively in a team environment, juggling multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Develop strong interpersonal skills, persuading officials to talk and interviewing victims and family members
Requirements
  • Enthusiastic and talented journalism students with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Strong reporting and writing skills, with the ability to work quickly and accurately
  • Fluency in a language other than English is an asset
