Toronto Star Radio Room Journalism Internship

The Toronto Star is seeking highly motivated and talented individuals to join our Radio Room internship program. As a Radio Room reporter, you will be responsible for monitoring police, fire, and paramedic reports, as well as social media and other sources for breaking news. You will provide quick tips to the newsroom and sometimes conduct original reporting for all the Star's platforms.
This is a paid, contract position that requires a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a passion for journalism. You will work in a fast-paced environment, often juggling multiple tasks at once. Successful candidates must be calm, well-organized, and able to persuade officials to talk and interview victims and family members affected by crime or accidents.
QualificationsWe are looking for enthusiastic, talented, and intelligent journalists with strong reporting and writing skills. You should be able to work quickly and accurately, and have a strong commitment to journalism as a career. If you are fluent in a language other than English, please include that information.

Your application should demonstrate a range of reporting experience, with a strong component of news coverage. You should have proven ability to report thoroughly, write well, synthesize and organize information, and have strong interpersonal skills. Life experience that contributes to your development as a journalist is also an asset.
This role is represented by Unifor Local 87-M. The salary for this position is $19.86/hourly.
