Position Title: Customs Associate I

Job Overview

The Customs Associate I plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with U.S. and Canadian customs regulations while managing import and export documentation. This position is essential for facilitating the smooth transit of cross-border shipments. The associate will engage with consignees, shippers, and brokers to resolve any issues related to shipment clearance, documentation, and customs holds.

Key Responsibilities


• Ensure adherence to Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) regulations regarding package examinations and shipment clearance requirements.
• Investigate issues related to CBSA bonded shipments that are currently on hold, including necessary communications with relevant parties.
• Respond to CBSA tracers with appropriate clearance information.
• Verify and review shipment details for compliance with United States Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) standards.
• Handle inbound and outbound communications to address documentation issues, including duties and taxes, and facilitate shipment clearance.
• Conduct routine data entry and manage the flow of commercial invoices through the Genesis System to brokers as part of the clearance process.

Education Requirements


• A high school diploma is required. Preference will be given to candidates with post-secondary education in International Studies or those holding a Certified Customs Specialist designation.

Experience Requirements


• No prior experience is necessary; however, administrative experience in cross-border transportation and customs processes is preferred.

Essential Skills and Qualifications


• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.
• Strong understanding of technical and administrative terminology related to U.S. and Canadian import/export regulations.
• Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Strong customer service abilities.

Work Schedule

This position may require working various shifts, including weekends.
