Assistant Professor of Precision Agronomy

We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to fill a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Precision Agronomy in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research program in precision and digital agriculture to increase the productivity, sustainability, and profitability of dryland cropping systems.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and lead a research program in precision and digital agriculture, focusing on the use of remote sensing and autonomous tools to optimize crop management.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Plant Sciences, including courses on precision agriculture and digital technologies.
- Supervise and mentor graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and collaborate with local producer groups, national and international programs, and colleagues.
- Establish a rigorous, competitive, and extramurally funded research program, eligible for Government of Canada Tri-Council funding.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in agronomy, crop science, soils science, remote sensing, environmental science, or a closely related discipline. They will have demonstrated experience in precision and digital technologies, including remote sensing, yield mapping, proximally sensed crop and soil data, simulation models, and machine learning techniques. Excellent communication skills and the ability to participate in outreach activities aimed at western Canadian producers are essential.
