Role Overview:

The Bridge Worker III is a skilled professional with extensive experience in the maintenance and construction of bridge infrastructures. This role encompasses various responsibilities, including working as a carpenter, concrete finisher, sandblaster, painter, steel worker (structural or re-bar), rigger, equipment operator, flagger, and general laborer. The position requires versatility in handling a range of tasks using diverse tools, equipment, and materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and conduct minor repairs on machinery such as jackhammers, drills, chainsaws, tampers, sandblasters, and concrete vibrators.
  • Engage in the maintenance of structural steel and concrete elements of bridges, assisting with tasks such as washing, cleaning, painting, sandblasting, sealing, grouting, and placing structural concrete.
  • Safely manage various hazardous materials including epoxies, grouts, sealers, paints, thinners, and cleaning agents.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Ability to work autonomously or collaboratively to achieve project goals.
  • Proficiency in operating and working around heavy construction machinery.
  • Capability to utilize a variety of new and reclaimed materials effectively.
  • Familiarity with a range of hand and power tools and equipment used in bridge construction.

Work Environment:

  • Maintain awareness of personal fitness and readiness for work.
  • Perform tasks at significant heights, engaging in physically demanding work outdoors.
  • Be prepared for out-of-town assignments and weekend work as necessary.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Completion of high school education or equivalent.
  • Ability to take on lead responsibilities.
  • Possession of a Class 3 Alberta Vehicle Operator's License.
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate.
  • Relevant training from the Alberta Construction Safety Association.
  • Capacity to perform physically demanding tasks in an outdoor construction environment.
  • Competence in working at significant heights.
  • Awareness of personal fitness and readiness for work.
  • Ability to interact courteously to maintain a positive company image.
  • Knowledge of standard bridge construction methodologies.
  • Skill in interpreting detailed engineering plans.
  • Understanding of applicable laws and regulations.
