This role involves proficiently operating a range of heavy machinery utilized in roadway maintenance tasks. A Roadway Maintenance Technician/Operator is accountable for maintaining highways, managing equipment operations, and executing physically demanding tasks as necessary to ensure the Highway Maintenance Program is executed in accordance with contractual obligations.
It is essential to understand and adhere to fundamental labor regulations, relevant specifications, and organizational protocols.
Roadway Maintenance Responsibilities:
Ensure proper signage and other necessary traffic control measures are established as outlined in Operations Excellence Training Modules (OETM), contractual agreements, and pertinent Alberta Transportation Specifications.
Operate machinery and perform labor-intensive tasks for snow and ice management, roadside upkeep, road surface maintenance, traffic control, bridge upkeep, and overall highway maintenance.
Guarantee that vehicles, equipment, facilities, yards, and keys are consistently secured in line with company standards and policies.
Exhibit adaptability in operating, comprehending, and a willingness to learn the proper operation of various heavy machinery.
Complete all necessary documentation, including fuel logs, scheduling forms, road reports, highway maintenance records, equipment repair requests, and safety and environmental records related to specific tasks.
Familiarize yourself with and comply with the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) standards for the assigned maintenance facility and other locations as required.
Ensure that all operations are conducted in an environmentally responsible manner, adhering to company environmental and safety policies, as well as OH&S (Occupational Health & Safety) regulations.
This position requires significant shift work, on-call duties, and night shifts. Plan and organize working shifts and call-ins effectively.
Working Conditions:
Expect long hours on highways during summer conditions. This role necessitates significant shift work, on-call responsibilities, and night shifts.
Work will be conducted outdoors in various weather conditions, requiring a valid Class 1 (preferred) or Class 3 driver's license with air endorsement.
Experience and aptitude for operating and performing minor maintenance on light, medium, and heavy machinery are essential.
