Job Summary

The Mechanic II - Heavy Equipment Repair Specialist is a critical role within Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc, responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our industrial equipment. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, including diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and repair of complex mechanical systems.
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Conduct quality control checks to ensure that all equipment is functioning within specified parameters, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Adhere to all company health, safety, and environmental standards, and participate in initiatives to promote a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with maintenance team members, operations staff, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless equipment operation and minimize downtime.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; 5 years of experience in heavy equipment repair and maintenance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical Skills: Possess a strong understanding of mechanical systems, including engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems; proficiency in diagnostic testing and repair of complex equipment.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
Working Conditions

This position requires regular exposure to all weather conditions, physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt, and the ability to work at heights. Safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, and face shields must be worn to eliminate risks associated with these hazards.

Physical Demands

The Mechanic II - Heavy Equipment Repair Specialist must be able to stand for up to 12 hours a day, lift and carry up to 100 pounds occasionally, and perform other physical demands as outlined in the job description.
