Key Responsibilities
  • Execute a diverse range of technological tasks across various domains of mechanical and electrical engineering, primarily supporting the design and development of factory automation systems. This includes crafting and composing innovative and detailed proposals for prospective clients, based on general automation concepts and ideas.
Specific Duties
  • Accountable for conceptual development, pricing, and drafting comprehensive technical proposals for various types of automation equipment and projects.
  • In instances of significant technical complexity, the applications engineer will engage key members of engineering management in pricing and conceptual layout discussions.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other technical personnel in the design and development of products, systems, processes, and equipment by analyzing technical challenges and adhering closely to customer specifications.
  • Involve third-party vendors and suppliers in the quoting process when necessary.
  • Travel to client sites to assist in project or product development, aligning with engineering design specifications, objectives, and standards.
  • Deliver sales presentations to client personnel as required.
  • Gather and prepare detailed estimates of time, quantities, labor, and material costs necessary for work areas such as product design, testing, machine construction, equipment installations, and manufacturing processes.
  • Compile and collect all essential technical information and customer specifications from engineering and sales & marketing to prepare detailed proposals.
  • Analyze materials and draft in clear, concise language for initial drafts. Subsequently, select, organize, edit, and revise proposals.
  • Ensure proposals are dispatched to clients via the most efficient route to guarantee timely arrival.
  • May undertake special projects in support of engineering and sales & marketing as required.
  • Clearly define the scope of work in proposals to enable project managers and teams to commence work on systems.
  • Position entails extensive use of Computer Aided Design software and computerized spreadsheets.
  • Ensure all business activities are conducted with the utmost ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and procedures.
Qualifications

Education:

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of three years of experience in mechanical design engineering with a working knowledge of electrical design in an automation context.
  • Must possess a working understanding of robotics, machine controls, and manufacturing processes, staying updated with leading-edge technology.
  • Familiarity with computerized word processing, presentation software, and spreadsheets using MS Office is essential.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar drawing software is required.
  • The ability to present ideas, concepts, and pricing information clearly and concisely to technical audiences is crucial.
