Job Title: Employee Relations Specialist

GardaWorld is seeking a highly skilled Employee Relations Specialist to join our team. As an Employee Relations Specialist, you will play a critical role in promoting employee welfare and resolving human relations problems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Document and manage employee relations or workplace concerns in a case management system and initiate the fact-finding process.
  • Conduct thorough and timely fact-finding to determine the appropriate resolution or if further investigation is needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation in the case management system.
  • Ensure each employee relations or workplace concern is documented and addressed, regardless of the intake method.
  • Escalate employee concerns or grievances as necessary.
  • Engage with employees regarding reasonable accommodation requests, including interviewing employees and evaluating requests.
  • Provide strategic support to all levels of the organization to ensure employee performance management is top of mind.
  • Stay attuned to organizational and operational changes to identify potential risks and develop proactive plans.
  • Serve as a point of contact and provide support, guidance, and direction to management and employees on employee performance management.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of feedback or corrective/disciplinary actions.
  • Provide data analysis and reporting solutions to highlight key trends in employee relations and drive proactive solutions.
  • Help develop target initiatives to address specific employee relations issues.
  • Partner with HR Partners and the Performance Management team to identify trends in performance issues and action plans.
  • Facilitate educational workshops and training on topics related to employee relations.
  • Conduct routine data analysis and reporting to identify and escalate key trends in employee relations issues.
  • Design, create, and implement proactive programs, policies, and procedures to improve employee relations.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records regarding all reported cases and fact-finding documentation.
  • Interpret and apply an understanding of GardaWorld policies and practices, employment law, and other regulations to provide advice and guidance.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Human Resources, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or Labour Relations or equivalent work experience.
Competencies:
  • Team Building and Communication: Support the development of a healthy internal culture and facilitate coordination and communication between departments.
  • Work Standards: Set and maintain high performance standards and pay close attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Problem Solving: Analyze problems, identify cause and effect relationships, and come up with appropriate solutions.
  • Initiative: Take action to influence events and generate ideas for development.
  • Communication: Communicate clearly and concisely.
Working Conditions:
  • 20% to 30% of this position is travel-based within Canada, with a higher travel requirement during collective bargaining negotiations.
  • Most of the time is spent in an office environment with frequent opportunity to move about.
  • Occasional lifting of light objects.
  • Requires visual attention and concentration when working with employees to determine and understand employee relations issues.
  • Long periods of reading and concentration required when doing research on case law and reviewing case files.
