Position Overview:

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist to become a vital part of our Testing division.

The Testing division plays a crucial role in supporting Canadian Blood Services by conducting routine examinations and fulfilling various laboratory responsibilities. In this capacity, you will oversee reagent management, ensure equipment upkeep, maintain documentation, and assist the Quality Assurance team with compliance tasks necessary for accreditation maintenance. You will collaborate with the Medical Officer, Charge Technologists, Trainers, and Equipment Services to provide program support, while also working with Quality Assurance to guarantee that the Diagnostic Services Laboratories adhere to current Health Canada, Manitoba Quality Assurance Program (MANQAP), CAP, and AABB standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Uphold quality standards within the Diagnostic Services Laboratories by managing reagents effectively. Conduct assessments of reagents prior to their utilization. Handle tasks related to recalls and reagent notifications. Communicate with reagent suppliers to resolve any supply or shipment issues. Facilitate assessments to classify reagents or supplies as critical when necessary. Ensure quality standards by monitoring equipment maintenance. Schedule and confirm that preventative maintenance for instruments is performed. Follow up on overdue maintenance and initiate Quality Events as needed. Perform instrument verifications and calibrations as required. Manage laboratory-specific documentation. Assist with quality assurance and validation efforts. Contribute to CAP application and re-application preparations as necessary. Collect data for quality indicator reporting. Conduct root cause analysis of Quality Events specific to the laboratory.

Qualifications and Skills:

Graduate from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program with certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM). At least two (2) years of relevant laboratory experience. Completion of the ISTP training program. Preferred experience or training in Quality Systems, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), or Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Previous experience in implementing validation protocols is an asset. Strong understanding of CAP requirements and Health Canada, AABB, and ASHI Standards. Comprehensive knowledge of statistical process control is preferred. Experience in quality audits and process reviews is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating sound judgment, tact, and discretion. Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively. Ability to conceptualize and adapt technical processes based on a broad understanding of principles. Strong analytical skills with effective problem-solving and decision-making capabilities. Actively promotes team cohesion and pride in delivering superior service.

Work Environment:

Flexibility in shifts and hours is required based on operational needs. The role involves periods of sitting, standing, walking, and lifting supplies and equipment exceeding 10 kg during the regular work schedule.
